Living in Piscadera
Piscadera is the area around Piscadera Bay, on the south coast of Curaçao, about 4 km north-west of Otrobanda, the part of Willemstad across the harbour. Since 1930 it has been part of Willemstad. The bay has a narrow beach and a passage to a lagoon of the same name.
The area has a long history. There were plantations here, ships landed in the bay, and Fort Piscadera dates from the 18th century. From the 1960s on, holiday resorts were built along the coast, and today several large hotels line the south shore of the bay. The bay is also home to CARMABI, a marine research institute founded in 1955 that studies coral reefs and fisheries, and the World Trade Center Curaçao is close by.
